Summer talk

All walks will go ahead so long as you turn up, what ever the weather! Please don't be put off by rain, fossil hunting can be very rewarding if the weathers bad. So grab those waterproofs and come on down to the beach.. Support your local tourism economy and have a great fun 2 hours.

Where to meet

Meeting Place for 2 hour guided walks listed above

Tickets will be on sale from me, on the day, near the Old Coast Guard Lookout. I usually start selling tickets about half an hour before start time. If you have pre booked tickets please collect them no later than 1/2 hour before start time.

This is easy to find, simply go to the sea front at Charmouth (DT6 6LL) and find the flag pole ( It seldom has a flag on it) turn right as you look at the sea and proceed up the slope, past the Gents Toilets to the Coast Guard Lookout. You are asked to gather by the Mill Stone Seat which is central to the grass area about 5 mins before the talk. You can also access the meeting point from the private field car park without going down to the flag pole.

Late arrivals can join the talk and pay for the tickets after the talk has finished. The talk lasts about 30 mins.

Suitable for all ages above 3 years, children (Under 16) must be accompanied by an adult. Younger children are welcome to come along with older siblings free of charge (3 years and under).

Clothing: We get sunshine and rain during most months, so make sure you have clothing for the weather on the day. Waterproofs, wellies or walking boots for wet weather or shorts and beach shoes, sandals or crocks for the hot weather. In wet Winter weather full waterproofs with wellies are the best!

Participation in a Fossilwalks.com walk is entirely at your own risk. It is however a very safe activity so long as you take notice of all safety warnings given on the day. See Safety Code

You are paying for my experience (1997 to now) and guidance in finding fossils, There is a high probability that you will find fossils on my tours, however I can not guarantee you will find a fossil. Beach conditions vary each day and so does the collecting potential of the beach.

Beach closures

In all my years of working at Charmouth Beach I have known the beach to be closed on only one occasion, this was in response to the fatal accident at Burton Bradstock some 10 miles down the coast in July 2012. In the event of a beach closure I will endeavor to contact you all to let you know if you have pre booked tickets. However this can only happen if I am told by the authorities in good time. Beach closures are beyond my control.

Walks are conducted with permission of Charmouth Parish Council and follow their Code of Practice.
